SHORT INTRODUCTION

Visitors may find the peace of the monks pledging a vow of silence in the hermitage of Majk, which is something of a curiosity in Europe. The Baroque historic building complex is encompassed by woods and lakes. The hermitage of 17 cell-houses, the mansion and the church building complex were built according to Pilgram’s plans and from the donations of noble families.

The monastery is divided into two parts: the U-shaped convent building that has been restored and the so-called clausura with the cell-houses of the hermits. The latter is under renovation at the moment. Each cell-house had an own chapel, a living and sleeping area, a pantry and a cellar that the monks wearing white robes and living according to a vow of silence could use. The site is accessible for disabled people.
